Devices and Mac OS X version

Two months after VLC 1.1.5, and after more than 58 million downloads of VLC 1.1.5, here is a minor release of VLC 1.1.6. Introducing small features and fixing important bugs and a security issues, here is VLC 1.1.6. Introducing a security fix over 1.1.6, here is VLC 1.1.6. I just tested a m4v file with VLC Version 2.2.1 and it works fine. (Not sure what type of media files you are trying to open) So here is what I did: Right click or ctrl+click on the media file Open with VLC The file opened just fine. To open ALL files by that type: Use the Get Info option. (in the picture) From there you can select.

VLC media player requires Mac OS X 10.7.5 or later. It runs on any Mac with a 64-bit Intel processor or an Apple Silicon chip. Previous devices are supported by older releases.
Note that the first generation of Intel-based Macs equipped with Core Solo or Core Duo processors is no longer supported. Please use version 2.0.10 linked below.

If you need help in finding the correct package matching your Mac's processor architecture, please see this official support document by Apple.

Web browser plugin for Mac OS X

Support for NPAPI plugins was removed from all modern web browsers, so VLC's plugin is no longer maintained. The last version is 3.0.4 and can be found here. It will not receive any further updates.
